Record shopping in Los Angeles

LA record shopping orbits one giant — Amoeba on Hollywood Blvd, the biggest independent record store on earth — but the real fun is everything around it. Highland Park has become the city's crate-digging spine, Long Beach holds down the punk and hardcore end, and the Valley hides some of the best-priced used jazz in the country. Distances are real; group your shops by neighborhood and drive.

What diggers say

Amoeba Music is an absolute classic and still one of the best record stores around. Huge selection across vinyl, CDs, movies, and merch—you can easily lose an hour just browsing. Staff is knowledgeable and the vibe is exactly what you’d hope for from an iconic music spot.

We walked into this place on a Saturday afternoon. I believe the gentleman who worked with us was either the owner or possibly the manager. He was polite, knowledgeable and friendly. We were selling about 600 vintage CD's. He said "we primarily sell rock and R N B.

Hands down the best record store in LA. Every Saturday they drop new “old” records for some of the best crate digging finds you’ll find. Over 200k records to sort thru! Love the team. Love the aesthetic. && Love how it’s now attached to one of my top 5 favorite speakeasies too!
